It was a pleasure being a part of the J-1 Intern/Trainee Hospitality Program for the 2017/2018 season courtesy of Jobseekers International Placement Agency. However, it was not without its fair share of ups and downs. The program overall was a great experience as I have learnt a lot these past months. The Omni Mount Washington Hotel and Resort is a cut above the rest. The first stop was the Bretton Arms Inn fine dining at its best, breakfast in the main kitchen was a bomber the experience was a cut above the rest, Fabyans station and the Rosebrook Restaurant was the place to be. But with all that’s said and done, the friendship and bonding with my new family was something to behold.

Now, this is a message to the prospective participants: don’t miss out on the next opportunity to excel in your own right.

My relationship with Jobseekers International began three years ago. I participated in the J-1 Summer Work and Travel Program for two years and now I am currently on the J-1 Intern/Trainee Hospitality Program, and I must say I have not had a moment of regret! I was placed at The Kennebunk Inn as a Chef Garde Manager where I got the opportunity to work with professional chefs who taught me a lot. I am at the end of my program and I can proudly say this has been an amazing experience. I can also proudly say I can plan and execute an event successfully. After two weeks of shadowing my supervisor, I was able to handle inventory on my own and ensure the preparation and presentation of dishes were to the standard of the restaurant.

I must say how grateful I am to Jobseekers International Placement Agency for their role in this opportunity as without them this wouldn’t be possible. Their keen vetting process to ensure I was placed in a job that is related to my career, and ensuring that I would be housed comfortably while being here says a lot about them positively. I must also emphasize how exciting the cultural exchange part of the program is, as I was happy to make new friends, some of which will last a lifetime, trying new foods and even learning new languages was a plus for me.
